I saw on the news this morning that grocery prices are going up, at least in part, because of new pests being imported. Since 9/11, the agricultural scientists responsible for patrolling importation of invasive species have been transferred to anti-terrorism duties. While we have been kept safe from human terrorists, we have been invaded by other species and diseases which are damaging crops and forests. Sadly, this is not completely by oversight.
